From: "rcam" <rcollins-AT-netlink.com.au> Subject: RE: AUT: re: stages Date: Wed, 25 Jul 2001 16:36:28 +1000 Thomas, I'm not "hung up" on the use of the word 'stages'. But it's illustrative of a broader problem with even having this discussion here: that, for whatever reason, it's going to be an abstract discussion. In part, that stems from the fact that it's imprudent to even launch a discussion on the question of 'when is violence appropriate?', try and answer it, or even expect anyone to answer it. (This is why I changed the subject line, btw.) In another sense, no amount of discussion here will translate into the concrete resolution of this question (for the better me thinks), and no one should imagine that it might. At most, people might express their opinions on this or that action (which is limited by a number of considerations*), but it cannot be approached as if 'we' (whoever that might be) are planning anything, or would ever be in a position to. The question of permanent autonomous zones (or however one might describe them) is, again, not assessible on any e-list in the abstract. As an intellectual exercise, it's best left to science fiction (which I happen to like a lot, for that reason).
