Institute) 28 Rutland Gate London SW7 1PQ, Tel: 020 7584 8653 (Underground: Knightsbridge) We all know that contemporary art is based on a liberal consensus between corporate sponsors, state funding, bureaucratic art institutions and their agents: curators, gallerists, critics, artists. We all know that the actual multiculturalist art system supports the development of neoliberal globalisation of capitalism. We all know that this system oppresses, selects, discriminates, gives fixated identities, exploits, frustrates, hurts, kills. All of us in the system know this, but we smile cynically or criticise in a subtle way and obediently reproduce the system. Is all the cynicism and safe critique getting you down? Do you feel listless and jaded by the apathy surrounding you? Brener & Schurz's three elements of refusal provide a step-by-step guide both for beginners and advanced students of rebellious knowledge. Learn individual and collective means of liberation from local and global, cultural and political oppression. Alexander Brener and Barbara Schurz are joined by ATAC, Dave Beech, Richard Bussex, CRASH!, Earl Brutus, Peter Kennard, Stewart Home, NOborder NOnation, the WOMBLES and Carey Young for a programme including lectures, performances, talks and discussions.
