I'm not wild about the idea of ID cards, but - being a dual national - i
have an italian ID card and compared with the number of cctv cameras in the
UK (the highest number per capita in europe - probably the world) I feel
much less observed than I do when in italy. I find it hard to get too
excited about it. The UK citizens consider having to carry what amounts to a
passport around with them at all times as an infringement of their 'civil
liberties' (although given that everyone - pretty much - has bank cards,
credit cards on them, and so are hardly difficult to trace), while they are
absolutely silent about being observed at all ours of the day and night.
Civil liberties or privacy is in this sense utterly abstract, disguising the
true level of surveillance UK citizens are subject too. I didn't apply to be
on big brother, I don't need to...

I'm sorry Karl, I'm sure you are a nice fellow but the below could have

you've probably seen. Clumps of marxese with little empirical backbone.

Here is a little piece of empiricism:

Blunkett the UK Home Secretary has already suggested that he might want to
introduce ID cards, something the bourgeoisie have toyed with for years,
but have found it hard to make the population swallow.
