I think that what Chris's post points to is the need for a leftwing position on the national question. I have tried to initiate discussion on this many times on this list only to be met by a blank. This idea does not belong to the Stalinists. It is quite clear that if imperialism has any reality at all, which it so obviously does in the present context, then so does the national question. I think the hesitancy to acknowledge this lies from a fear that nationalism will somehow be posited as a solution or as progressive or something. Not so, what is precisely required is a non-nationalist position on the national question. I think if any theoretical question can be described as urgent, then it is this one.
