From: "Peter Jovanovic" <peterzoran-AT-hotmail.com> Subject: AUT: SWP on Negri Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2001 16:51:45 +1000 hi all just skimmed through the latest issue, #92, of the UK SWP's 'International Socialism' which contains a critique of Negri by leading commissar Alex Callinicos. there is also an OK account of the Genoa protests and their one previous article on 'autonomism' from way back in 1980. a few points on Callinicos. he accuses the Black Bloc and Tute Bianche of substitutionism. 'what was that you said pot?' :) he also seems to think that Negri is the dominant influence on autonomists obviously unaware of the considerable criticism of 'Empire' in particular offered on this list. given that he thanks Aut-Op-Sy subscriber Sebastian Bugden for his help with the article he might have been aware of these criticisms. still i suppose it's easier to attack Negri's autonomism than the sounder versions put forward by Harry Cleaver or Midnight Notes. also interesting to see that the focus of ISO/SWP criticism of 'ultra-left deviationism' has changed from anarchism to autonomism. to whoever (commie00 perhaps?) was planning to write "Right-Wing Communism: A Capitalist Disorder" it can't come soon enough comrade. International Socialism can be found on the web, along with much other quality ISO/SWP writing, at www.lpi.org.uk but #92 isn't up yet. Callinicos' article no doubt deserves a much fuller critique but unfortunately i don't have the expertise to do it. peter _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp --- from list aut-op-sy-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
