From: Daniel Sayer <Daniel.Sayer-AT-prnewswire.co.uk> Subject: AUT: Porto Alegre - Counter Revolutionary ? Parecon... Date: Fri, 8 Mar 2002 15:05:16 -0000 Just a small question could you please elaborate on the "counter-revolutionary Porto Allegro summit" ? As in why specifically counter-revolutionary...why dismiss it etc... It seems to me that this list suffers most from a "I'm more left (anarchist/trotskyist/negrist/autonomist/stalinist/leninist) than you than you" and could do with a dose of "respectful dialogue". I spoke to many people who seemed to be concerned with organising networks of global protest...which seems a fairly obvious but essential tactic of the movement... Of course, it may be more "interesting" to argue about these things at a level of abstraction which gives an aura of "revolutionary" concern ...but personally I would prefer a discussion of "practical models of creating a mass movement"...and "practical economic/social models" that we are, are not attempting to move towards...Are these goals really understood ? Do we need a clear model to convince people to "join" ? ...because they are less than clear in a lot of people I have talked to... Just to pick a model I am slightly familiar with has anybody any thoughts on Participatory Economics (Michael Albert) ? Dan. --- from list aut-op-sy-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
