i was going to respond here, but it seems worthwhile to first point out the
group of articles aufheben wrote on this subject of state capitalism, etc.
which is well researched, and represent a good synthisization and extension
of left-communist thought on state-capitalism, etc. etc.... you can get to
them thru their page (http://www.geocities.com/aufheben2/) . they are the
"what was the ussr" articles, in issues 6, 7, 8 and 9.

and tho i'm sure you won't agree with it, it might give us a common
reference for any fruitful discussion on this since i figure you're going to
hear folks (even those not familiar with this article) make arguments that
are similar.

quick comment:

and marx pointed out that any instance of hierarchy institutionalized into
anything like a state means that a ruling class must exist... this is
something that lenin, natually, glazed over quite a bit.
