A couple of years ago, I tried to give an overview of the Italian scene
as I understood it.

It appeared in the Australian IWW paper Direct Action, and is online at

http://www.mercatiesplosivi.com/dibase/page138.htm

If you can read Italian, the web sites for Di Base and Umanita' Nova
provide excellent coverage of the COBAS and alternative unions, thanks
in large part to the work of Cosimo Scarinzi.

In the Melbourne case, the only one I can speak of directly, moves to
develop a stronger industry-specific focus have been slow. I would put
that down to the weaknesses of the GMB ( mixed local) model - then
again, these same features were also a strength in getting a bunch of
like-minded people together in the first place.

I know there are other IWW members on the list, so perhaps they would
like to chime in with their five cents worth.
