From: Daniel Sayer <Daniel.Sayer-AT-prnewswire.co.uk> Subject: AUT: Re: Monopolise Mayday: Here we go again...I'm too radical for my Date: Tue, 26 Mar 2002 14:21:22 -0000 Yeh...yeh "rock on" man...revolution yeh...man...whatever...I am the weaver...lets meet for a pint and talk about this...cause its starting to annoy me...that "oh so theatrical" walk out of GR meetings...the heckling from the back...it's a laugh...makes for debate... To clarify I am not a member of GR...but I occasionally give them some support... dubious statements: "Monopolise Resistance": so small in the UK this is ludicrous...they successfully organised a few conferences and a few coaches to go to European protests...oh and have a website with some stuff on it...or do you mean....they just "got more people involved than us"... which would be pathetic...or could it be "we need to keep this so REAL man...that it remains OURS"... or could it be "they have too much orange in their material and I always preferred red" ! the only yardstick to judge any of this by is action...judge it by that only...if they get some more people to turn up...that will do for me...if the police pen us in again there will be another riot and some more people will be enlightened by the state response... "Guy class traitor Taylor": now this is getting silly if you can't understand he's on your side... get a grip...just engage in dialogue instead of monologue and maybe you'll get somewhere... How is he a traitor of his class...? Explain it to me slowly...cause I'm a little dumb...or is it relative...is he more of a traitor to his class than you but less of a traitor to his class than laughing boy Tony...? "The trade union and labour hierarchy, who for years paid at best lip service to Mayday, fears the growing militancy amongst some sections of the working class and the possibility of a genuine link up with anti-capitalists, which may lead to the adoption of the tactics of direct action and the rejection of sterile trade union and electoral politics. No doubt they have an eye on the local elections on May 2nd. They are backing United for Mayday as a safety valve" - and there was silly old me thinking GR were just trying to replicate what happened in Genoa and Barcelona - the broadening of the protest by involving unions... "Excitement indeed!" - critical mass cycling, wearing padded outfits, juggling...three word chants...yeh...excitement indeed...and isn't it all so exciting...the underground plotting...the purity of our revolutionary stance against theirs...the in-depth thought about tactics and how we are going to "dodge" the police... "the state will be use this to justify state violence against anyone who dares to defy the false unity"...do you dare...do you...go on I dare you...unfortunately, you will be a target if you are in the "legal" march or in the direct action stuff...of course the direct action will provoke more of a police reaction...isn't that the point of it ? ! ?...wasn't it agreed at the meeting that any actions by the police to attack the direct actions would be protested against by the mass protest...is that not an act of solidarity from GR ? Similarly if "the anarchists" stayed instead of leaving everytime in a huff...we might have found that common ground for future work... I sometimes get the feeling some are playing the "game of revolution" rather than thinking what might be the best tactic for immediate and long term change...so as far as possible you need a mass movement...which needn't mean "selling out" being a "class traitor" etc. but it will involve moderation from a purist revolutionary perspective...dialogue with a view to changing your position...the simultaneous existence of a million positions with a unified aim...attempting to change the organizations which you recognize as having good intentions but which you feel are adopting bad tactics...or undemocratic structures of heriachy / organization etc. Are you really slandering GR cause they organized a few conferences...never went but I heard there were some good speakers...and organized a few coaches and a train to Genoa...? "Globalise Resistance is a front for the SWP and Socialist Alliance" - is it really a "front" or do you mean that some people free float between all these organizations...being "the left" that exists in this miserable island...does GR really have the same agenda as the SWP or Socialist Alliance...doubtful...do they really claim every worker supports them...now that would be silly... sectarianism and the left...you better believe it baby...I'm too radical for your shirt...too radical for your shirt...too sexy... unity in diversity...you can shove it...purist revolutionary direct action...sounds so wonderful and beautiful... For what it's worth my take on GR is a little more generous...although they need to think through some stuff which is currently up for debate...they've only been around for a year or two...so as far as I'm aware everything is still up to be debated... if this turns out not to be the case...then I'll eat one of their orange flags... d. --- from list aut-op-sy-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
