Stalin could put people in prison. I have no such power. But professors
like yourself have plenty of power to fail students. I wonder what makes
you retain sucn a sectarian style, like you were still in some radical
collective from 25 years ago or so. Sleeping on mattresses. Running
mimeograph machines to make leaflets against Amerikkka. Wearing sandals and
a ratty black turtle-neck shirt. In fact, you are a sixty year old full
professor who does nothing but write books and articles on art history,
jets around to academic conferences and spends all his time in the genteel
surroundings of William and Mary. Does spitting at me make you feel like
you still belonged to the Anton Pannekoek collective? Well, go ahead. That
must be a lot easier than actually writing something intelligent about
Cuba. I still don't understand how becoming a full professor rots out the
brain so. I have run into more intelligent contributions on email lists
from people recovering from head injuries.
