<P><BR>Hello Nate, </P>
<P>A deterritorializing apparatus of rule is simply a way of referring to this type of power structure that oversees the contemporary circulation process of capital and capitalism. Deterritorializing refers to its process of removing the territoriality of one mechanism or process in the capitalist chain and capitals éventual reterritorialisation with another mechanism or process. It gets to the heart of this amazing progressivism of capitalism to keep up with the crises that pop up everywhere. And 'apparatus of rule', which according to them, was almost synonymous with the nation state for the earlier stages of "modern" capitalism, refers to this far decentralized network which is increasingly usurping "rule" and the means of rule, from the state. </P>
<P>The concepts of course are not meant to be mystifying. I think once you get a hold of them you realize how important they are in shifting ones perspectives away from less dynamic means of explainging phenomena. </P></DIV>

<DIV></DIV>>Thomas,
<DIV></DIV>>Can you (and/or another list member, maybe Lowe? Arianna?) explain
<DIV></DIV>>what "deterritorializing
<DIV></DIV>>apparatus of rule" means in the Hardt quote? I think I get the
<DIV></DIV>>decentered part.
<DIV></DIV>>I've read some Deleuze (and understood less) but not the bits about
<DIV></DIV>>deterritorializing and reterritorializing.
<DIV></DIV>>I've heard these terms used a lot and find them mystifying. I know
<DIV></DIV>>things will eventually be clearer when I read more Deleuze, but
<DIV></DIV>>that'll be a while and any explication is much appreciated.
<DIV></DIV>>
<DIV></DIV>>best wishes,
<DIV></DIV>>Nate
