Subject: AUT: negri and war

"We absolutely need not to underestimate the civil war that is unfolding at the
imperial level. I think we could say that the american leadership is deeply
weakened precisely by the imperialist tendencies that it occasionally
expresses. It is obvious that neither in the arab, nor in the european, nor in
the socialist world, not to mention that 'other continent' called China, these
tendencies are accepted. The military superpower of the US is, as we know,
largely neutralised by the impossibility of being used in its nuclear
potential. And this is good news. From the monetary point of view, the US are
increasingly exposed and weakened on financial markets: and this is another
great news. In other words, with all probability, the US will soon be forced to
stop being imperialist and recognise themselves in Empire. "

i am sure that empire has been discussed here ad nauseum but the quote above is
from a recent (i think) interview with Negri and since I am trying to better
come to grips with his arguments I wonder if anyone has a comment on whether
Negri's idea that the Bush administration is a step "backwards" to imperialism
and is butting its head against a world moving into empire holds water in light
of the almost universal rejection of the current U.S anti-war policy.
thanks
