From: "chris wright" <cwright-AT-21stcentury.net> Subject: AUT: Re: Holloway review Date: Tue, 18 Feb 2003 11:07:15 -0600 Hey Nate, I read the review. It was okay, a bit long-winded and jargony in that special News and Letters way, IMO. Hudis touched on some of the issues I have with the book and that I covered in my review briefly, most notably the abscence of a discussion of the content of communism (what Hudis refers to as the positive aspect arising out of the negation of capital, or the negation of the negation as necessary moment.) I think he addresses that reasonably well, though... I find it interesting that Marx in the 1844 Economic and Philosophica Manuscripts critiques the necessity of negation of the negation. He in fact seems to break with the idea that such second negation must happen, though I am not sure if he ever goes back on this critique or if anyone thinks I am misreading Marx's critique in the Manuscripts. I think that if I have a problem with the review, it mostly stems from my not being convinced that Hudis' argument about 'negation of the negation' holds up.
