Not all that important but: The number you give for Barcelona -- 500 000 -- most likely too low, also according to all mainstream Spanish papers I have seen. According to the police 1.3 million people participated in the demonstration in Barcelona. (Some of course operate with higher figures, up to 2.5 million, but most papers I have been able to see give either "over a million" or 1.3 million for Barcelona). The paper El Mundo has calculated 880 000 for Madrid based on average figures pr square meter. I suspect it to be fairly correct. I also seen a website that comes to 4 847 900 for the whole of Spain when using firgures given either by the police or the main local newspaper (probably fairly accurate) 6 930 900 when relying on the organizers own figures (probably inflated) and 2 665 600 according to the central government figures (which probably is too low.) In all circumsatnces a lot of people. (The figure for whole of Norway should btw. be about 125 000. It should be pretty sober.) Harald --- from list aut-op-sy-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
