WWP is  a sect probably , but not  of the typical "Leninist" 
or stalinist type.

Yes they are a state capitalist   control wannabe outfit that backs every 
nasty bourgeois (or pre bourgeois)statist  regime- especially those on the
 'outs' with the US , Iraq , N. korea, Cuba, Venezuela, Sudan, Libya  et
al. 
but  even some regimes friendly to  US capital , Vietnam, Laos, etc.

But to imply they are just like typical 'stalinists' or (gulp) "Maoists'
borders on almost plain carelessness . What stalinist or maoist M-L 
outfit champions "gay rights movement actions" , and (gasp!)
 "transgendered struggles' and womens lib, etc, a la the supports
 promoted by WWP?! 
(Maybe they print a special redacted edition of 'Workers World"
 for mailings to the state cap regimes they love?!)
But its sure  true they have a politically rather broad front of support
for what used to be called "3rd worldism"- that 
'movement'  that really imploded before the capitalist market 
and the IMF, especially  when its rulers could not play off
the Russian state cap bloc against the US led capitalist bloc
and merged more into the western bourgeoisie for profiteering
and state controls..

The point about looking at the 'track record' of US social dems
and liberals (and OK,  stalinos like the CP-USA too, etc) shows they 
have been the main forces in de-railing mass US  workers struggels
into  passive, bureaucratic  and  state-controlled  reform group 
control steming from the winning of hegemony in mass workers struggles
from  the 1930s Democratic Party Rooseveltian' movement, then to 
send workers  packing for the  warring for capital in WW2 ,to  derailing
the
1960s Civil Rights/anti racism struggles  &  Anti Vietnam war  movement
up into the 1980s movements- originally against US hegemony over Central 
America, etc.

Not that that the WWP is detached from ties into the Democrats,either,
they like its 'left' wing too--part of it anyway. Thats why WW P for well 
over a decade served as water boys (and girls) fro the Jesse Jackson forces
in the Democratic Party.
Theytoo have a history of utterly nausiating & opportunist bourgeois
politiking,
They tend not to run any  WWP candidtates where the Democrat is
the incumbent , a liberal , a person of color , and facing a close
race with  a more right wing Republican, or Democratic Candidate.
Of course in this age of capital , capitalist state electioneering has
nothing to offer workers  and is mainly a political -ideological 
swindle to  keep workers tied to 'democratic' illusions- and 'faith'
in 'walk on water' saviors., i.e. passive, and sheep like.

Well, if you want to say that much of this is in the confines
of 'leninism' , well OK-- but the track record still spells
out that historiclally American left -liberalism and social
democracy (the left inside the DP) , sometimes supported by 
"M-L"s , sometimes not , is still the key political enemy ,
a  huge trojan horse inside the rising mass  social movements
with potential to become oppositional to the rule of capital.-
as we see again today.
