A Reply to Noam Chomsky) These penalties for non-voters/abstainers , the fines lectures by hypocrite bourgeois judges, and their political flunkeys , lackeys and apologists are in a way another exposure of the bosses system . Some may not think the abstainers make a point--but in bourgeois 'democracy' , its effacy is mainly via 'consent', validated partly through elections., etc - and the passivity that feeds it. (Chomsky is only partly on target here actually about ' consent' but then he seems to get suckered into the ballot box circus -strange for a so-called 'anarchist" ). If you pullout from this rigged charade to christen the bosses henchmen screwing you from their state power, you may be considered a threat , not now maybe, but in deepening crises , yes. Many workers still believe this political system can work for the waged slaves as well as for the slavers. Bourgeois theory (democracy/elections) also becomes a material force when it grips the masses. But this is the strength of 'democracy ' not its weakness, The modern state democracy is eminently superior to any 'fascist' form of superstructures. For 90% of bourgeois in power, this is proven by history , form an economic and also a political/military point of view. Communists should bring out/expose the actual historical track record on elections and how the bosses need them more in this epoch, their effect on workers self organization, action , etc.. In the 18-19th cent , the bosses wanted a restricted 'franchise' but today they are begging people to vote and even paying well for 'voter sign ups', corporate media blitzes, etc. You dont have to be an aryan, or a property owner, or male. Come one -come all! Its a big tent . Aahhh, PT Barnum would be proud! Neil --- from list aut-op-sy-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
