The only impression of death I have on the net is like those old movie 
stars - or cowboys - who fade away. Whatever we attribute "death" to on 
the net is very tame and hygienic. It takes a very sensitive person to 
appreciate the death of a character in a film or television program. 
Leary's suicide plans are something very different. They are like the 
sensational car crash or murder that we sometimes notice as we shuffle 
home from work. Its power to arrest is not "404 Not Found," but more like 
a crack in the glass cyberhouse. The net has been used as a prelude to 
many things that its creators never dreamed about: rape, abduction, 
seduction, corruption, but never as the event itself...
