Hey everybody, Millie's back! By the way, think you're right; evolution is where its at- given of course that we can't pull off the revolution. The trick is for some of us to evolve before the rest of us kill them off- this species has a nasty habit of killing off anything it doesn't understand. Are we at that crossroads, the corssroad of evolve or die? Consider what we know about ourselves at this point; In science, granted, we've always thought we couldn't do that, but we are now starting to realize that, heh, they are some things we just won't EVER be able to do... like travel at the speed of light, or build particle accelerators big enough to see what the universe was like 10 to the -23 after the "Big Bang"... In linguistics; language is, inherently, phenomenologically, limiting. We think in its terms, we define through the polemical in its terms; on that not, it might be even more sadomasichistically pessimistic to note that meaning has ALWAYS been dead... In philosophy; well, post-existentialism, outside of Aristetelian logic, what can you really say anymore?... the whole process is inductive, a fuzzy area that no one wants to touch... In religion; theologians (at least those with their eyes open) are starting to realize that the "simple" model of religion is a good way to teach mores to those who need it, but, aside from that, even at its most intellectualized, that institution whose sole purpose is TO OFFER PURPOSE falls short; it is not enough, in and of itself, for the "TRUE" (wank, I know) seeker... In politics; its like, we know its all pointless, deep inside; that B. Clinton and B. Dole can make empty promises until the cows come home, because we have to vote for one or the other, and we really can't make them do anything, and between them and their private sector chums, well, they have all the power on Earth, why should they give a fuck about us ( I mean REALLY give a fuck about us... And as for economics, I think its safe to say that, as Millie pointed out for us, the machine is way the FUCK out of control (having built in over-production,non-ethical, futurless comsumption, and exploitation- through the mechanisms of what we call 'efficient economics', the workers labor is continually devalued; did you know that the harder a worker works, the less they are, technically, being paid?; five widgets and hour equals five dollars an hour, so ten widgets an hour equals ten dollars an hour, right? WRONG! still equals five an hour...) Think we are reaching critical mass; not that I'm a doomsayer- if our time is over then heh, so fucking be it (why are we exempt from the "law of the jungle"?) thoughts? sterling Austin --- from list avant-garde-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
