same discourse we've been hearing for thirty years with new buzz-words
inserted, new tribulations replacing the old ones. Political theory is

Thanks for your long and thoughtful response to that. I agree with a lot of
what you said. And I certainly feel no allegiance to nation-states. But, I
also see the other statement as having a kind of truth in it too. I don't
agree that all political theory is bankrupt. I certainly don't find a lot of
feminist theory bankrupt.

Some live, all die, I would say. But some deaths are more convenient than
others.

Nature is violent and chaotic, but it also operates as a relational
creativity, full of interdependence, beauty and even peacefulness and
harmony, if I may dare to use those words here in the late 20th century. It
has it all and probably more than we have yet imagined or have words for.
That Burroughs sees it only as violent and chaotic is not surprising. Genius
though he can be at times, he's also the guy who said women are two-holed
freaks with poison juices, or something to that effect. Burroughs has a
violent imagination.

I was once at a party where Burroughs was attempting to hold a toddler, and
the kid started kicking and screaming when Burroughs picked him up (the kid
was tired and cranky anyway) and Burroughs looked so perplexed. Burroughs had
a kid, so I'm sure he must have held a baby before, but it was an interesting
sight. Burroughs and baby looked so incongruous.

And I think man being the final and most terrifying face of nature is a
little egotistical. And it neglects a whole lot.
