         MOBA News 11/25/96 - Issue #43

        -----------------------------

MOBA JOINS THE ARMY - The planning for MOBA's upcoming benefit for the
Salvation Army continues. The centerpiece of the gala event at Dedham
Mall on Wednesday, December 4th will be the unprecedented MOBA Affordable
Art Auction. Never before has any major art museum auctioned off its
entire reject pile to the general public.

As word of the auction spreads, Friends of MOBA from around the world
have been inquiring about how they too might bid on these "not bad
enough" paintings and sculptures. In response, MOBA's Department of
Electronic Communication has been hard at work organizing a phone bank to
take live bids from bad art lovers around the world. Potential bidders
should contact MOBA's Department of Electronic Communication,
moba-AT-world.std.com or 617 325-8224 before December 4th with their phone
numbers. Remote bidders will be patched into the auction's sound system
for bidding on the painting of their choice.

Meanwhile, the Boston area Friends Of MOBA are invited to join the Parade
Of Bad Art that will kick off the evening. The parade, led by the
Salvation Army musicians, will begin at approximately 7:45 and march
through the mall. It will stop at the center court for the MOBA Kazoo
Choir and its guest soloist to serenade the strolling shoppers. The
parade will continue on to the recently-deserted Lingerie Factory, MOBA's
Gallery-For-The-Night.

Parade participants should gather at 7:30 PM at the Bradlees entrance to
the mall and speak to the parade organizer. Approximately 30 people are
needed to carry the paintings and sculptures of MOBA's newest exhibition
in the parade. An unlimited number of kazoo players are needed for MOBA's
Marching Kazoo Choir. The choir will be led by Mike Frank, MOBA's newly
appointed musical director whose credential include being son-in-law of
the ex-president of The Kazoo Company of Eden NY. Kazoo players should
arrive promptly so Mr Frank will have the 5 minutes of exhaustive
practice needed to mold you into a world class choir.

No previous kazoo experience is necessary to join the choir, just an
eager willingness to learn and unwavering dedication throughout the
entire rehearsal period. Choir members are encouraged to bring their own
instruments but kazoos will be provided for those that need them.

Other planned events include:

       * The new MOBA Exhibition - "More Bad Art" (the previously
announced exhibition "Portals to the Soul" will be
         rescheduled for sometime in 1997)

       * The "I can't even draw a straight line" contest.

       * The unveiling of startling new acquisitions by the
         esteemed curator.

       * Special guest appearances by MOBA artists.

       * Professional balloon millinery by Mike the Hatman.

       * Book signings of MOBA's new book by authors Marie Jackson
         and Tom Stankowicz.

        -----------------------------

BOOK SIGNERS NEEDED - The Museum Of Bad Art's new book, imaginatively
titled "The Museum Of Bad, Art", arrived in bookstores across the nation
over the last few weeks. Since then, Tom Stankowicz and Marie Jackson,
the book's authors have been swamped with requests to appear at book
stores for book signings. Both Ms Jackson, Director of Aesthetic
Interpretation, and Mr Stankowicz, Director of Imaging and Reproduction,
have heavy work schedules here at MOBA Headquarters. They have become
concerned that these book signings may take away from their more
important work at the museum.

In response, the museum is seeking the help of the Friends Of MOBA across
the U.S. to clear the book signing backlog. The back of the MOBA book
contains a list of 1700 Friends Of MOBA (as of April '96). We encourage
all of those whose names appear to go to their local book stores and
volunteer to sign books on behalf of the museum. Regale passers-by with
tales of bad art as you scrawl witty inscriptions in their copies of "The
Museum Of Bad Art". If any bookstore managers have any doubts about the
authenticity of your offer, instruct them to call the MOBA Membership
Services Department at (617) 325-8224 and the staff will reassure them
that you are a duly appointed representative of the institution. If you
are not sure whether your name is among the 1700 in the book, send an
inquiry to moba-AT-world.std.com.
