Date: Fri, 6 Dec 1996 22:24:43 +0000 From: Alastair Dickson <adickson-AT-post.almac.co.uk> Subject: Verne (was: enclosed space in literature) In article <199612052310.SAA90312-AT-jefferson.village.Virginia.EDU>, Heiko Recktenwald <UZS106-AT-IBM.rhrz.uni-bonn.de> wrote >Jules Verne??:)) Verne's an interesting case, quite apart from the enclosure question. He has a rather gadget-ist reputation (submarines, airships, etc), although works such as "20000 Leagues Under The Sea" seem to critique power, including power exercised for utopian ends. I believe one of his lesser known (and I think un-Englished) novels is based on the Paris Commune, from a pro-Communard perspective. Perhaps someone has more info. about this (e.g. if that novel is in print in French or even German)? -- Alastair Dickson, Stirling, Scotland -- <adickson-AT-post.almac.co.uk> --- from list avant-garde-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
