Subject: Re: practice

Though I try to do some artistic work (poetry and photography),
my main involvement with the arts is as a "consumer." This I try to take
very seriously as a "practice." In this regard, I am not at all
interested in the approach of the "connoiseur" or, even, of the art
historian. What I try to do is to take the lessons of the works in which
I'm interested to heart, to try to live my life according to the
perspective that they express. My main interest has been in the work of
John Cage. Rather than make a fetish of his work, I have tried to listen
to the sounds around me, to experience the world in the attentive and
mindful fashion that his work evokes.
cheers,
George
