Subject: epics

Hello,

I'm constructing a great lit of the world class around epics: the nature
of the epic as a genre, the various systems of ethics both explicit and
implicit in epics, diff versions of damnation and the uses of parody,
pastiche, or imitation in contemporary reappropriations of the epic.

Some of the contemporary texts I'm using are Barthelme's The Dead Father,
Gardner's Grendel, Barth's Chimera, and Niven's Inferno.

What I'm missing are examples of epics or parodies of epics in which the
epic hero is a woman? Any suggestions?
