Perhaps his work is more of a civic art than political in the normal sense. Its more like urban planning, as he says, which is of course very political. What I like about it especially is that its not aggressive and not based on putting anybody down (the "bourgeoisie" for instance). It involves bringing people together and getting them working on a common project. His work is also exemplary in that it reaches a wider audience than most artists and gets talked about, discussed in the wider community. It is also uplifting, by all accounts, and people enjoy participating in it. In that sense it perhaps gives us a larger sense of what community could be.
