Hello one and all---I would like to relate a story that a European friend told
me---it is supposedly about an experiment that was conducted somewhere in
Europe---i would like to receive some verification of the factuality of this
story or whether it is an urban folklore tale.

If anyone can help me out I would be very grateful......

Thanks Michael Benton

This story is about an experiment in which actors/actresses were dressed in
the official uniforms of doctors/nurses. They told volunteers that they were
to administer electric shocks to patients for an experiment on the benefits of
electroshock. The volunteers were told that the govt. had sanctioned the
experiment. The voltmeters used in the experiment had scales that went upt to
240 volts (supposedly most people in Europe understand that 240 volts is a
lethal amount b/c it is the voltage of their wallsockets and from an early age
they are made aware of the danger---whereas in US the wall-sockets are a
jolting, yet non-lethal, 120 volts). The officials would tell the volunteers
to administer a jolt---there would then erupt, in a nearby room, screams of
agony/pain and pleading for them to stop. The officials would tell the
volunteers that everything is OK, its perfectly legal and safe, and to
continue increasing the voltage. Supposedly almost all of the volunteers
continued to increase the shocks until the 240 volts (even though they knew
that this was a lethal amount).

Any info on this story would be appreciated---also any info on the "Last Wave"
experiments in the US, or similar types of experiments would also be useful.

Thanks,

Michael Benton
