At any given point, maybe about 1% of 1% of what is being produced is
good enough to stand the test of time, and to be acknowledged
subsequently as representing a genuine development of what had gone
before. Both history and statistical probability are stacked against you
in any quest to satisfy both a craving for novelty and a search for
significance amongst the contemporary output.
