During my lunch hour I just found reference to Joseph Campbell's Reflections on the Art of Living: A Joseph Campbell Companion. It suggests art is more about identity and memory than aesthetics. Maybe it is the memory of the artist frozen on the canvas. "Art is frozen Zen" according to Buddha! and how about this:"Art is made in the gap between where one is and where one wants to be' Elizabeth Murray. Maybe it is more spiritual than visual.
