 - apart from Burroughs, try Alexander Trocchi - 'Cain's Book' is the novel
to go for.  He hung out with the Situationists for a while, plus Burroughs.
Leonard Cohen smuggled him over the US/Canadian border when he was
sentenced for flogging drugs to a minor.  He writes about writing and
heroin, and was working in the 50s and 60s, in Paris and New York.  Great
stuff.
