the ho-chunks, formerly known as the winnebagos, have stories about
travelling to greet the edge of glacier, of hunting the megafauna, the
slowest oldest drift body around.  according to the theory the
unglaciated area I live in was inhabited during the glacial age by the
ancestors of the ho-chunk & mastadon, 6 ft beaver, ground sloth, wooly
mammoth, etc.  they found most of a 20 ft high at the shoulder mastadon
about 15 miles from here & reconstructed it at the uw-madison geology
museum.  how big is the dam that a 6 ft beaver builds?
