The opening reception, which is free and open to public, will take place on Sunday, February 27 from 4:30 - 6:30. For more information call 860.232.1006 or visit www.realrtways.org. "Moving Pictures," which is conceived and organized by Real Art Ways Curator Barry Rosenberg, is comprised entirely of time-based installations, both large and small, which explore human relations and emotions. While some work is confined to monitors, other work is projected onto walls and incorporated into installations. Moving Pictures features outstanding practitioners of video-based artwork. Artists in the show include: Sam Taylor-Wood, Tony Oursler, Amy Jenkins, Janine Antoni, Paul Ramirez-Jonas, Gary Hill, Raul Cordero, Jocelyn Taylor and Peter Sarkisian. Each of the video and cinema based installations in "Moving Pictures" earns its power through the presentation of highly emotional content. Today, the video medium has grown to where it deserves to be curated and viewed as we do other visual arts media - where content and genre bind exhibitions. In "Moving Pictures" the glue that holds these nine installations together is thematic not technical. Each piece in a unique fashion explores domesticity and relationships while sculpturally empowering a defined space. "Moving Pictures" will run through May 14, 2000. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 2 to 8 pm. Admission is free. Real Art Ways is a nationally acclaimed contemporary arts center featuring innovative visual art, film, video, performance, music, and public art projects. The space is located at 56 Arbor Street in Hartford, Connecticut and houses a 5, 000 square foot visual arts gallery, a 155 seat cinema, and a coffee bar.
