The Department of Art and Art Professions, New York University / School of
Education is pleased to announce

F R E D   T O M A S E L L I
"Painting has traditionally been seen as a window onto another reality, a
kind of rectangular utopia of relief. I am interested in the relationship
between this myth and the broader culture that contains it -- a culture of
relief seeking, reality avoidance, and forgetfulness...... My work aims to
be escapist while simultaneously exploring the perceptual and cultural
dynamics of escapism."

Thursday, March 30th, 6:30 PM

Einstein Auditorium

34 Stuyvesant Street
Between 3rd & 2nd Avenues at 9th Street

Tomaselli, the New York based painter who "has won a reputation for
optically dazzling canvases that employ not only paint but also arrays of
mind bending flora and pharmaceuticals," will discuss his latest work and
the American quest for a natural utopia.

exhibitions have been held at Jack Tilton Gallery, New York (1995, 1997);
