Hi Heiko & Cie:

(i should note i am also a "frog-eater", but of the North Amrican
variety . . )

Your post makes a good point.
Would like to add, from personal experience of various prisons and
the "corrections system", that there is also what I call
"Interiorization", that is the prison begins to exist contiually, whether
one is inside or outside.
this is very hard to combat.
Some examples of ones who have are Jean Genet and Malcolm X--among
many others, many many others, through the ages. (Cervantes, for
example--the list is large.)

A paraodox of the disciplinary system is that within it, one may
create a self discipline--writing, art, study, thought--which frees one,
within the walls.

This person may be, paradoxically, as Genet has pointed out, more
free than one outside the walls.

Tthe insidious action of the disciplinary, correctional systems is
that not so much alone on the physical, but on the interiorizing, of the
desired effects, the inner branding.

Franz Fanon and others wrote of this in terms of "interiorized
racism".

In popular culture you can find many examples of the conflict:
the film COOL HAND LUKE, say, or many of Merle Haggard's songs ("Sing Me
Back Home", Branded", "I'm a Lonesome Fugitive")--again, the list is
long--
