Just a laughing reference to Dunsany's fictional cultures, to which he gave
such great silly names. your seizing of higan and transformation of it into a
fiction otherculture manifestation is really very Dunsanyesque. I've been
thinking about it because I found an old limpbound leather pocket edition of
Dunsany stories, inscribed, in the estate sale of an elderly nun. It had been
much read. I was charmed by the idea of her reading these odd stories (never
was a Dunsany reader prior to this). I like the one where the beggars come
through town preceded by the barking dogs, and proceed to tell the grimly urban
elements the lovely fates they are destined for. Why do fabliaux seem so
appealing lately? Fullthroated earnestness wrapped in a lie?
