Dunsany's writing is that oddly pleasing kind that is ultimately a failure--it's full of bare seams and received information and bald spots--but in its collapse it produces wonderful shards of stuff worth picking over. In many ways this is more pleasing than those sturdy wellmade edifices that pass for good writing. At least for us crows.
