We anticipate such themes including, but not limited to the following: the militarization of the police; governmental and nongovernmental surveillance; restrictions on movement and the use of public space; limitations on protest and dissent; corporate control of the media and the media as control; control at work and work as control; the New Puritanism (the war on drugs, sex, and dancing); groupthink and enforced orthodoxy through education, religion and ideology; the Prison/Industrial Complex. We're seeking work in a variety of mediums: painting, illustration, print, comics, sculpture, photography, film and video, illustration, performance, installation. The show will open on Thursday May 3rd, and will run through June 7. The exhibition will close with the launch of a program on ABC No Rio's InterActivist Network website addressing the same theme.
