Subject: Social Control Show -- Call for Artists

Artist Call for Participation

ABC No Rio is now soliciting work for a show scheduled for May that will
address themes related to the issue of "social control."

We anticipate such themes including, but not limited to the following: the
militarization of the police; governmental and nongovernmental
surveillance; restrictions on movement and the use of public space;
limitations on protest and dissent; corporate control of the media and the
media as control; control at work and work as control; the New Puritanism
(the war on drugs, sex, and dancing); groupthink and enforced orthodoxy
through education, religion and ideology; the Prison/Industrial Complex.

We're seeking work in a variety of mediums: painting, illustration, print,
comics, sculpture, photography, film and video, illustration, performance,
installation.

The show will open on Thursday May 3rd, and will run through June 7. The
exhibition will close with the launch of a program on ABC No Rio's
InterActivist Network website addressing the same theme.
