Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 13:32:26 -0400 Subject: Benefit for Artsy Magazine at 31Grand From: 31grand <gallery31grand-AT-earthlink.net> For Immediate Release 31Grand Thirty One Grand Street Williamsburg Brooklyn, New York 11211 718-388-2858 http://www.31grand.com MEET ARTSY This Saturday, August 25th starting at 8:00pm, come to 31 Grand to celebrate the debut of Artsy, a newly-launched collectively-run women's arts magazine (in print and on the web- see artsymag.com, if you please) founded early this year in Amherst, Massachusetts. Artsy has come a long way in a short time, with her website garnering over 5,000 hits in its first month, and she plans to grow even more popular. In the first full-color 16-page issue of Artsy, one can discover the work of fourteen emerging female artists and writers, including mixed-media artist Jean Shin (recent front-page feature of the Times' weekend section), and interviews with ad and film director Souzan Alavi, old-school feminist artist Nancy Spero, and everyone's favorite activists, the Guerrilla Girls. A conversation with Judy Chicago is in the can for the next issue, now that she has surmounted the task of making herself presentable to a public that thought it had seen the last of a certain movement beginning with the letter "F". Artsy is a magazine poised to take on the large scale audience and a full range of topics related to the woman's position within the art establishment. Come to Artsy's launch party and have a lot of fun while supporting a worthy cause. Meet the founders and a few of the artists, view their work, enjoy food and drink, experience live music by a diverse range of talented women (and a few men for good measure), see how "artsy-craftsy" women can refuse to be. Shows are scheduled to begin at 8, and with seven acts, the party won't stop too soon. For more information, please see http://www.artsymag.com Address questions to artsymag-AT-yahoo.com.
