Subject: Fly-away Thought Date: Fri, 07 Aug 1998 20:38:01 PDT "... the words come gushing out, as it were, set down without connecting links, and almost outstripping the speaker himself" (Longinus, _On the Sublime_, tr. Dorsch). Now, as speaker, victim of wordly (verbal) democracy, my wor(l)d skewed by out-reaching yet veiled nu(is)ances of a system(atic rigor) ... I am re-veiled, shrouded, as a dead man, my tongue taking on the consistency of cotton ... Insular, circular. Provisions are made ... * * * * * The vein of a foot. Circulation; circumambulation of hylic essence, as fluid as the externalized Word ... : _pros ton theon_ : "Listening not to me but to the pure word, it is wise to agree that all things are one" (Heraclitus, fragment B 50). Then the "base seduction" (Bataille) of a foot, even if it carries the gaze downward, pulsates with the essence of the lofty cranium. The waxy heat of the sole is balm for the tongue of cotton. "Know thy place" is as solemn a sage-like utterance as "know thy Self." When one recognizes the equal distribution of all essence, salvation is already pulling him homeward. And 'home' is always in the direction of the gaze. The outward-looking ones are already home; the reflective ones are weak only; and the purely inward-looking ones are saved by nature, by ESSENCE. * * * * * When the words gush out and flow freely, essence is expanding unto chaos ... chaotic illumination --> _punctuation_, restrictions of all sorts, scatter before its flying fury ... One relies upon the interpreter, the contaminating Other, for "[n]othing is more distressing than a thought that escapes itself" (Deleuze, Guattari, _What is Philosophy?_: Columbia 1994, p. 201). A thought that flies before its own shadow. _Hylic thought_ is fly-away thought => creativity always in retreat before its own potentiality. Possessing, as it does, a _derived_ essence (as paradoxical as that sounds), hylic thought ranges from lofty heights to sultry and even morbidly icy depths. Any and every thought of (a) matter is open to this, and bears its cross as an inherent flaw ... it awaits salvation --> a salvation which is present already at its very root. Hylic thought finds its primal (originary) essence beyond all determinations ... even beyond the I. The 'unknown god' does not grant salvation, but rather is the reason a concept like 'salvation' gets invented in the first place. ~~ Edward >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (!) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
