As far as David's reply, I think there's both an alternative (something irrational in human experience, something impossible, a fullness of life that doesn't fit back into a certain kind of nice categorizing and yet isn't empty or meaningless for that) and some other arguments (e.g.: (a) experiential/mystical; (b) literary; (c) anthropological/ ethnological). It seems like you're summoning a vast arsenal of tools to dismiss something; even the effort you are making suggests that there is more than a mere corpse to dual with. (Or maybe we should think about what great effort it has taken us as a society to rid ourselves of corpses.) I don't really know what level you're facing this at.
