Daniel, Thanks for assuming the helm for this reading group. I wonder, though, if the schedule may have us moving a bit too rapidly through a short, but complex essay. We seem in danger of rushing ourselves, in an environment which gives us the luxury of working in something other than the "real time" about which folks like Baudrillard have had so much negative to say. If, for example, discussion of the first section carries us for a week, shall we plan on multi-threading as a group or on adjusting our schedule accordingly? My sense from reading _...Silent Majorities_ in the past is that there is a great deal about it which is unclear - and which might take us some time to work through, particularly as many of those interested in participating have professed a fairly limited acquaintanceship with Baudrillard. Just something to think about, i guess. Lists have a way of making their own rules in process... By way of (re)introduction, I'm Shawn Wilbur, a Ph.d student in American Culture Studies at Bowling Green State University, with a concentration in (mostly continental...go figure) philosophy. I've read most of Baudrillard's work which has been translated into english, and used several of his works in the classroom (with mixed success...) I'm also the "owner" of this list, which means you ought to feel free to get in touch if you need to for any reason. -shawn <swilbur-AT-bgsuvax.bgsu.edu> On Fri, 26 May 1995, Daniel Lacan wrote: > So, Baudrillard "fans" have begun exchanging info about weird happenings. > I imagine that if enough of us have Baudrillard "experiences" we might be > able to get of Fox TV's super show, _Sightings_.:-) > > Here is the long-awaited reading schedule for _In the Shadow of the > Silent Majorities_. > > Monday 4 June: pp 1-30 > > Wednesday 6 June: pp 30-47 > > Friday 8 June: pp 48-61 > > Sunday 10 June: pp 65-91 > > All page numbers from the Semiotext(e) edition. > > I'm recommending two days between readings to allow us a day for reflection. > > Note: I know next to nothing about Baudrillard, so I will not be > functioning as an expert like people on other lists.
