Subject: Discombobulated! Opening Reception Party, May 12th. -AT- The Gallery Luscombe
Date: Tue, 9 May 2000 04:00:16 -0700

Hi,
Wanted to invite you down to see our new show, DISCOMBOBULATED -AT- the
Gallery Luscombe. I am yet again, amazed, as each artist brings in their
work to install it. So many clever pieces. I've been especially enthralled
by the work of Tamara Frankel, whose humorous and personable linear
narrative on polaroids keeps breaking the rules and taking me behind closed
doors on a bad grrrl trip through contemporary Dionysisian landscapes.
Popular SF Artist Mats!? has served up some disturbing and satirical
inner-city aesthetics and John Sheridan shows his mastery of eye-popping pop
art layered over colorful abstractions. Here's the details:

DISCOMBOBULATED
‘social, emotional and physical discombobulation’

May 12 - June 4, 2000
Opening Reception: Friday, May 12, 6:00 - 10:00pm
Discombobulated will be accompanied by deejays spinning discombobulating
sounds.

Curator Sacha Eckes (Pop tarts, 111 Minna Street, American Pie, Mission
Badlands) brings disparate parts together in a group exhibition of artists
addressing the discombobulatedness of human existence. Whether expressing
cynicism, comic humor, or commenting on the mentally ill, drug-ridden or
impoverished, the theme of the show is emotional, physical and social
discombobulation.
Discombobulation is a room filled with expectations, of people who've lost
their minds and limbs. Of people who have been misplaced in society and in
time. It is a room filled with hurt and lack of communication. It is a room
filled with efforts to disassociate from life's rules and tribulations.

It is also a room filled with dreams for a better life, with an underlying
tone of humor and hope.
