I'm not sure that the "model" precedes the real, but that the 
image-already-in-our-brains or, perhaps to use some Baudrillardian 
terminology, the (visual) simulation precedes the real ... don't you 
think the "model" for the filmic image was based on "scientific" 
testing in wind tunnels?
