Date: Mon, 17 Sep 2001 17:56:27 -0700 (PDT) From: master of time and space <sistersunshine5-AT-yahoo.com> Subject: compulsory patriotism hello all! the thing that bothers me most about the 9-11 tragedy has been the surge of compulsory patriotism. friday was supposed to be official "wear red, white, and blue day" and of course i wore black. i was explaining to a friend of mine, a friend who is arab-american, that i was wearing black to show that while i was in mourning over the lives lost, i am not proud to be an american. he looked at me and said "i'm glad that you feel that way. i am not allowed to say that these days." this in the land of the free. heh. imho, *people* are coming together to help the victims. *people* are donating their time, money, blood, prayers, whatever, to help *humanity*. *americans* on the other hand, want revenge. they are hungry for blood. and the symbol of this is the american flag. i'm rallying around a lil blue marble called the earth. :) anyway, i wanted to pass on this (almost) first hand account of what happened at cnn on tuesday. it's written by a friend of a friend who's aunt works at cnn. it's gotta be at least as real as what the media tells us. ;) "my aunt said the whole thing was very chatoic, but they were immediately evacuated and they were aware that the cnn center was target, I am not sure if this was before the pentagon was hit or not, but it was early in the day.... she said we turned over operations of at&t and cnn to the government at 10:30 am and only essential technical staff and essential reporters and the feds were left at the cnn center. the bottom line here is that she felt that those in charge of the situation in atlanta knew atlanta was a target tuesday am, and this was announced to us (public) on saturday..... also that the government presence at the cnn center is always there, but the news that we are getting is very filtered (much more that usual) Not that this should be new information to you, but I just thought you my be interested in an almost first hand account.
