From: Marshall Feldman <marsh-AT-URIACC.URI.EDU> Subject: Absence Date: Fri, 28 Jun 1996 10:31:46 -0400 I don't get it. Why do we need to make a big deal out of a special category like absence? If we say only food has the causal power to sustain life, i.e. that food is necessary but not sufficient for life, then why do we need a new category of "absence" to refer to what's really the negation: i.e., that absence of food causes starvation? Can someone help me with my confusion? Thanks.
