Re: Howard's comments abt formal and substantive transcendental
argumentation: I admittedly have Aristotle on the brain, as I am counting
down to d-day (Friday) when I have to take a qualifying exam in political
theory, but it struck me today that I kind of think of Bhaskar's notion of
philosophy as asking after a combo of Aristotelian material and formal
causes, and of social science as being concerned with efficient cause. This
may or may not be helpful to Howard, but is it completely off the wall?
