Subject: BHA: reading rts
I'd like to support Tobin's call for attention to the readings.
Now that Hans E has reposted section one of the second chapter,
everyone can put some attention to it. In the long run, what will
sustain this list is a steady progress through the reading
material. If there are any of us out there who have the privilege
of gathering a half dozen hardy souls for a Bhaskar reading group
say every Monday night, I am not one of them, and I suspect very
few are. And yet this material demands the ability to test
understanding and ask questions. Most of us are isolated in this
respect and the list is our lifeline. My guess also is that what
holds lurkers to the list in the long run is the progress through
the material. So please help with the reading. I don't think it
is enough to wait until there is something in the reading or in
what someone says that grabs your attention for a person to offer
a post. What we need is a steady exposition of the material
against which all of us can test our own reading. It is too much
to ask of any one person that they take the responsiblity for that
exposition. So everyone has to pitch in. It's the price of
admission. No one should let too much time pass without giving us
a straightforward reading of their reading of some section of the
current reading. And yet I can recall only two or three people
that have actually given an exposition of any section of Chapter 1.
Or questions. To take a section and simply offer the questions
raised by an honest confrontation with the material is enormously
important and something anyone reading through for the first time
can do. I will do another exposition of Chapter 2 material. Are
there others who can commit to doing the same? Or do others have
a different view of our virtual virtues?
