What is the meaning of this thread? I will not comment any more about
Ralph Dumain who I think started it. But I would like to respond briefly to
what David has had to say about the list. I am beginning to share his
feeling that the list is not a good place to discuss Bhaskar but my reasons
are diametrically opposite to his.

I am interested in what he caricatures as the "non-critical exegesis" of
DPF. Basically I want to use the list to read Bhaskar. As a non-
philosopher I would appreciate comments from philosphers on the list.
Louis has already come forward. And all jokes aside I was pleased to have
the Zeno paradox explained.

So far David has been unable to find the time to join in. That is a shame.
But if he regards us as a mob of sycophants then his silence is
understandable.

I will now say something about the style question. Tobin concedes far too
much here. There are passages of very good writing in Bhaskar even in DPF.

However that is not the point. The thrust of the style or bad-writing
critiques is to discredit Bhaskar as a philospher. This is territory being
defended. He who does not recognise this does not understand how the
academy functions.

regards

Gary
