Subject: BHA: netiquette!

I have been a lurker on the Bhaskar list for some months and although
unwilling as yet to venture onto the stormy seas of debate, I have enjoyed
engaging with many of the ideas under discussion. Some of the discussions
go over my head, as my philosophical training is at the level of Sophie's
World! However I am doing some reading of Bhaskar's work and participate in
Gary Maclennan's reading group.

What I want to say here is that I have found the list courteous and
intellectually open. Until recently. Now I sit down at my computer, log in
to my email and cross my fingers, wondering whether another stream of
invective will be downloaded. As a woman, living in Australia, I am
accustomed to encountering posturing males, overloaded with testosterone and
hatred. More usually in pubs. Not the sort of thing I would expect on a
philosophy discussion list.

Please, let the courtesy return. And boys - go find another windmill to
tilt at. Make your contributions if you must but leave out the pathetic
sexual references and silly swearwords.

Cheers,
Hilary McLaren
