Just a brief note, since fascinating as the present thread is, I'm busy
now on other things and can't do more than skim this list. But I did *not*
offer an etymological argument. Come now, you all know what etymology is,
and my note was not an instance of it. It was something even worse: it was
a footnote in the history of ideas, a delusory discipline since ideas as
such have no history.
