Subject: BHA: Emergence and Levels

I am preparing a paper for a theatre conference and I
need a refresher in Basic Bhaskar.

I am arguing against cultural theories (such as the Lacanians)
who write as if it is possible to use the same
terminology and methods (or, to put it blutly, jargon) to
formation of the child's personality and to social dynamics
(such as "desir" "jouissance" etc.), and everything inbetween.

I like the idea of separating the activities of individual agents from
social ensembles (and not committing upwards or downwards conflation of
the individual and the social).

But in terms of EMERGENCE I am a little foggy.
Can we say that "society" EMERGES from a more basic level (human
psychology), or that the study of psychology is emergent from the study of
society (and, by extension, psyches emerge in reality out of social
mechanisms).

A little guidance would be nice.
