On the other hand, given my advanced years . . . * * * To Caroline and All -- Caroline writes: >Secondly, I am concerned about an > incipient split between social scientists and philosophers. I >heard a well known critical realist the other day publicly distance >himself from DCR, saying he was a CR but not a DCR. Others >have done so by implication. . . . Maybe the London debate >about CR and DCR will help, locally. I think it would be a service to the list if those familiar with the London debate would fill us in. I am very fuzzy about the distinction being suggested and did not know that it had anything to do with a split between social scientists and philosophers. Also, Gary, you have referred to the difference between CR and DCR in a recent post. Could you give us your summary of the substantive points at issue? * * * To Roberta and All -- I have a colleague who read the brief report taken from the web site regarding Robert Young's presentation on "Critical Cultural Studies, Materialism and Race" at the Essex Conference and he is very interested in getting in touch with him. Do you (or anyone else) have an e-mail or other address? Howard Howard Engelskirchen --- from list bhaskar-AT-lists.village.virginia.edu ---
